South Korea and the United States will kick off negotiations Monday on U.S. plans of realignment and reduction of its troops stationed in South Korea.

A senior government official said Sunday that during the 9th round of the Future of the Alliance Policy Initiative talks, the two countries will discuss details on a plan to relocate the U.S. military headquarters out of Seoul as well as relocation of some bases under the Land Partnership Plan.

The official added that on the sidelines of the two-day meeting, the two sides will also share views on a U.S. proposal to pull out up to 12,000, or one-third of the 37,000 troops stationed in South Korea in line with its Global Defense Posture Review program.

Washington made the proposal in June last year, but formal discussions were delayed at Seoul
