South Korea and the United States will meet for their second day of negotiations on Tuesday to discuss the relocation of the U.S. military headquarters to a location outside of Seoul.

Earlier on Monday, the two sides held discussions late into the night on a wide range of details on the base relocation, including the costs of the move.

In particular, the South Korean delegation proposed to link Washington's plan to reduce its troops in South Korea with the relocation of the Yongsan Garrison.

Seoul wants to reduce the size of the site set for the new U.S. military headquarters in Pyeongtaek and Osan in proportion to the size of reduction of U.S. troops stationed on the Korean Peninsula.

However, the U.S. side reportedly expressed disapproval of the South's proposal, pointing out that the size of the new military sites had already been decided upon at previous bilateral discussions.

The South's delegation is hoping to reach a tentative agreement on the Yongsan Garrison relocation at the ongoing military talks. The Future of Alliance Policy Initiative Talks are the 9th of their kind since 2003.
