Main opposition Democratic Party(DP) leader Lee Jae-myung, who returned to party duties after a 24-day hunger strike and recuperation, urged President Yoon Suk Yeol to fully reform state affairs including a complete Cabinet reshuffle.

At a Supreme Council meeting on Monday, Lee said public livelihoods, the economy and national security are under threat from the government and ruling party's incompetence and irresponsibility.

The opposition leader said a mass resignation of the Cabinet would be a pivotal way to confirm the government's sincerity about self-reflection.

The DP chief said the government's faults must be judged sternly in next year's general elections in order to resolve public livelihood issues and to prevent the institutional regression due to state oppression.

Lee urged his party to come together in solidarity and unity to meet the public’s expectations through sufficient reforms, asking that there be no more reference to the parliamentary passage of a motion for his pretrial detention over corruption last month.

Lee welcomed the government's push to expand admissions at medical schools while pledging to cooperate with the ruling camp, anticipating that related reforms will be carried out in a swift manner.
