Police in Seoul will implement safety measures to prevent crowd accidents in the Itaewon and Hongdae areas during Halloween festivities at the end of the month.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency said on Monday that a safety management plan has been established for 16 areas in the city likely to experience a high density of people, with police stations in each jurisdiction to operate under a high-alert and emergency condition.
The safety plan, involving the deployment of up to one-thousand-260 police officers and personnel per day to the designated areas during the most vulnerable hours, will be imposed from Friday through next Tuesday.
Vehicles equipped with lighting will be dispatched to disperse crowds, while police barricades will be set up to maintain order in crowd movement.
Seoul's Mapo, Yongsan and Gangnam districts have designated 16 high-density risk streets to be subject to one-way traffic and authorities will also ensure there are greater routes for movement in different directions for pedestrians.
The measures come a year after a devastating crowd crush in Itaewon during Halloween festivities led to the loss of over 150 lives, while injuring nearly 200 others.
