President Yoon Suk Yeol and Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman adopted a joint statement on ways to boost bilateral cooperation.
In the statement issued on Tuesday, the two leaders agreed to further strengthen and develop a forward-looking strategic partnership.
The statement stipulated that the two sides will sign a memorandum of understanding on the operation of a joint strategic partnership committee and close consultations in the Middle Eastern country’s implementation of its “Vision 2030” national development plan.
In the first joint statement between the two nations since 1980, the two sides agreed to expand investment in trade, construction and infrastructure, defense and the arms industry, energy and the climate as well as cultural and personnel exchanges.
The two leaders also agreed to strengthen cooperation in global security issues such as the armed conflict between Israel and Hamas, Russia’s war in Ukraine and the North Korean nuclear issue.
Regarding the Israel-Hamas conflict, the two sides voiced opposition to attacking civilians in any way and agreed to cooperate with the international community to provide swift humanitarian assistance for civilians.
As for the security condition on the Korean Peninsula, Yoon and the Crown Prince condemned all violations of UN Security Council resolutions aimed at blocking the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
