Four individuals from North Korea reportedly defected to South Korea through the Sokcho area in Gangwon Province on Tuesday.

A military official said that the four have expressed their intention to defect on Tuesday morning.

They reportedly conveyed their desire to the South Korean military and Coast Guard, which found them at sea and are now attempting to confirm their identities and the possession of any weapons.
