A nationwide civil defense exercise will be conducted next week to bolster responses to fires at educational institutions and multipurpose facilities.

According to the interior ministry on Tuesday, over 400 venues including government offices, public institutions, elementary and middle schools, discount chains, movie theaters and department stores will take part in the 20-minute drill starting at 2 p.m. on November 1.

While there will be no sirens or traffic controls like in previous civil exercises, those inside such locations must evacuate to designated areas and receive training on cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the use of fire extinguishers and defibrillators.

There will also be training on roads on allowing emergency vehicles to pass.
