The government will officially announce on July 1st the results of an assessment on candidate sites for the new administrative capital.

The presidential commission on the planned capital relocation project said Thursday that that it would hold a fourth round of consultations on the issue and announce the outcome of its evaluations on the four candidate sites on July 1st.

The four sites under consideration are Jincheon-Eumseong in North Chungcheong Province, and Cheonan, Nonsan-Gaeryong and Gongju-Yeongi in South Chungcheong Province.

Analysts forecast that among the four regions, the Gongju-Yeongi area is the strongest candidate. The area is where former president Park Chung-hee had wanted to move the capital.

Assessment of the four candidate sites is expected to kick off for seven days beginning Monday at an undisclosed venue.
