The Ministry of National Defense said Thursday five foreign companies had submitted proposals for its project to develop multipurpose helicopters.

The five companies vying for the "KMH project" are Boeing, Bell, and Sikorsky of the United States, AgustaWestland, an Anglo-Italian helicopter company, and Eurocopter, a joint-venture between France and Germany.

The ministry plans to select a successful bidder in September and begin the development of the multipurpose helicopters in earnest after gaining presidential approval in late October.
