The United States says it is willing to enter Wednesday's six-nation nuclear talks with an attitude of trying to solve North Korea's nuclear impasse with other members of the six-way nuclear talks.
State Department Spokesman Richard Boucher said in a regular briefing session Tuesday that so far, all other nations participating alongside the United States in the higher-level talks have agreed that the ultimate goal of the dialogue is to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula.
Boucher also said Washington is willing to consult with other nations on how to dismantle North Korea's nuclear weapons program in a complete, verifiable and irreversible matter, adding that such would be the only means to successfully pull off the talks.
Regarding North Korea's concern over its national security, Boucher said U.S. President George W. Bush has indicated willingness to negotiate with the other countries on ways to guarantee that the North Koreans don't have to worry about their security.
