Kim's parents and older sister, who had been praying for Kim's release and safe return, broke down in grief and shock at dawn Wednesday when TV stations reported the beheading of Kim by Islamic militants in Iraq.

Kim's mother collapsed upon hearing the news and was transported to the hospital.

Memorial candles are burning before Kim's photo on a small altar set up at his home in the southern city of Busan.
