Labor unions of South Korea's major flag carriers Korean Air and Asiana Airlines say if the government sends additional troops to Iraq, they will not operate flights that would carry the troops to the Gulf nation. A coalition of flight labor unions told reporters Thursday morning that the government's decision to send additional troops to Iraq was responsible for the beheading of South Korean hostage Kim Sun-il and strongly urged the government to withdraw its troop deployment plan. The pilot unions also said they will refuse to operate flights carrying troops to Iraq to protect pilots' safety and demonstrate their will not to take part in what they called "an aggressive war that threatens peace." This is the first time for pilot unions in Korea to refuse flight operations based on a specific case.
