U.S. Changes Visa Rules for Foreign Workers

Written: 2004-06-24 00:00:00Updated: 0000-00-00 00:00:00

The U.S. State Department says foreigners with American work visas will soon have to reapply for them overseas when they expire. In the past, foreigners with work visas were able to reapply for them in the United States. State Department Spokesman Richard Boucher said Thursday the reason for the change of policy is that U.S. embassies abroad are better equipped than government offices in the United States to interview and fingerprint the growing number of visa applicants. Boucher said the new policy will not cause too much inconvenience as people can stay as long as they want and leave when they want as long as they continue to fulfill the necessary conditions stipulated by the visa regulations.
