Former President Kim Dae-jung is heading to China for a five-day visit.
According to Kim's secretary, the ex-president's visit comes at the invitation of a Chinese diplomatic society.
Kim is slated to meet with China's military chief and former president, Jiang Zemin, on Wednesday and discuss measures to promote bilateral cooperation and ways to establish permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula.
Kim's trip to China is his second visit abroad since he stepped down from office in 2003.
