A top North Korean diplomat in Moscow says his country has asked the United States for two million kilowatts of power in energy aid in return for freezing its nuclear weapons program.

Russia's Interfax news agency quoted North Korea's Ambassador to Russia, Park Ui-choon, as also requesting Washington to remove the North from its list of terrorist-sponsoring nations and to ease economic sanctions on Pyongyang.

According to the news agency, Park said Pyongyang would begin freezing its nuclear facilities once the United States starts offering compensation.

However, Park reportedly stopped short of mentioning whether his country will re-join the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
