The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has called on the two Koreas, the U.S., China, Japan and Russia to peacefully resolve North Korea's nuclear standoff through dialogue.

The foreign ministers of the 10-member ASEAN made the call in a joint statement issued after their 37th annual ministerial meeting in Jakarta.

Also in the statement, the association agreed to invite New Zealand and Australia to the group's summit slated to take place in Laos in November. Such a meeting is anticipated to improve past prickly relations between ASEAN and Oceanian nations.

ASEAN includes Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
