Seoul is strongly urging South Korean nationals in Iraq to evacuate from the country. The Korean government convened a policy coordination meeting on pending state affairs Thursday and agreed to urge all South Koreans in Iraq, excepting a few embassy personnel, to leave the country. The government also plans to conduct a daily security check for the remaining South Koreans in Iraq as well as issue a travel advisory for South Koreans in neighboring countries to refrain from entering the conflict-riven Gulf state. In addition, the government plans to organize an emergency council of government offices in the Middle Eastern region and hold counter-terrorism drills in July.
