South and North Korea have agreed to complete designs for the southernmost train stations on the North's side of two cross-border railways by September.

The agreement was reached Friday during talks in the North's Mount Geumgang resort.

South Korea also agreed to provide materials such as lampposts and road signs.

In early June, the two Koreas agreed to open two sets of cross-border roads and conduct pilot operations on adjacent railways in October.

Once completed, the Gyeongui Railway, on the western sector of the inter-Korean border, will connect Seoul with Pyongyang and continue to Sinuiju, a North Korean city bordering China. The Donghae Railway is to run northward along the east coast to Russia's Far East.

South Korea has already completed its portions of the transportation links but the North has yet to finish work on its side of the border.

A North Korean railway ministry official said recently in Seoul that the North plans to complete its works on the inter-Korean railroads and study a proposal to link the cross-border railroad network with the Trans-Siberian Railway.
