Foreign Minister Ban Ki-moon has denied a report by a U.S. daily that speculated on a possible summit meeting between leaders of South and North Korea and Russia.

Ban told reporters ahead of a Cabinet meeting Tuesday that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has also dismissed the New York Times report on possible trilateral summit talks, saying the matter has not yet been examined by the three sides.

In its Sunday edition, the New York Times quoted Russian experts on Korean affairs as saying that Lavrov was visiting the Koreas consecutively to arrange an inter-Korean summit meeting to be hosted by Russia.

Reports said Roh may convene a three-way summit meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-il and Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Russian Far East city of Vladivostok in September when Roh visits Russia.

Ban also denied reports that he will soon hold a three-way meeting with his counterparts from Pyongyang and Moscow.
