South Chungcheong Province has witnessed a sizable increase in population. This after the government announced one of the districts in the region as the likely site for the nation's new administrative capital.

According to a report by the National Statistical Office, the Yeonki area, the prospective site of the new administrative capital, posted a net population gain of 1,300 in May. The figure is up 26-fold compared to April, when it posted a net loss of 49.

The number of people that moved into South Chungcheong Province in May more than doubled to some one thousand-770.

Meanwhile, the number of people who moved out of the province totaled 660, less than half the number of people that moved in.
