The government is taking steps to ensure the safety of South Korean athletes and spectators at the upcoming summer Olympic Games in Athens.

To strengthen security for the South Korean delegation, the government plans to request bolstered security from the Olympics' organizing committee while scaling down a number of cultural performances and street events aimed at publicizing South Korea.

The government also plans to dispatch a team of security experts to Athens to conduct security check-ups in advance, and is to establish a security consultation body within the Foreign Ministry during the Games.
