N. Korea Reports on U.S. Proposal on Settling N. Korea

North Korea's Rodong Shinmun newspaper on Thursday reported on the proposal made by Washington at last month's third round of six-way nuclear talks in Beijing.

The North's state-run daily claimed that the recent U.S. proposal was merely a rehashing of Washington's previous call on Pyongyang to dismantle its nuclear weapons programs in a complete, verifiable and irreversible manner. The paper went on to say that the American proposal was only focused on disarming North Korea.

The reports also reported that Washington proposed for Pyongyang to allow international monitors to return to the North and to freeze its nuclear facilities in a three-month period, culminating in the eventual dismantlement of its nuclear weapons programs in exchange for energy aid.
