PM Lee Says Presidential Visit to North Should Avoid Risk

Prime Minister Lee Hai-chan said Monday that a prospective presidential visit to North Korea should not be carried out in a risky manner. During a parliamentary inquiry session, the nation's number two administrator also said that an inter-Korean summit should not take place simply for the sake of such a meeting. He inisisted that any prospective summit should be preceded by thorough preparations in order to facilitate dialogue and the resolution of the North Korean atomic arms standoff. Regarding prospects for a meeting of parliamentary lawmakers of the two Koreas, Unification Minister Chung Dong-young said that he would propose the meeting via inter-Korean channels, including a Cabinet-level meeting between the two nations slated for next month. As to suggestions for regular air service between the divided nations, Chung said related agencies would be consulted on the matter, giving consideration to economic and security concerns.
