Amid growing concerns over terror threats against South Korean vessels in the Persian Gulf, Seoul is considering raising the security level for vessels and harbor facilities from the current level "one" to level "two". The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries in Seoul said on Monday that it plans to raise the security level to level "two" if the security situation worsens. A security level of "two" indicates the detection of serious and clear signs of a terrorist threat, and would increase random security checks of passengers' luggage in maritime vessels, from the current 10 percent to 30 percent of all luggage. Currently, nine South Korean maritime vessels are operating in the Persian Gulf.
