The South Korean embassy in Greece is to open an electronic registry where South Korean tourists can voluntarily enter their contact information during the Athens Olympic games.

South Korean Ambassador to Greece Chung Hae-mun says the move is part of the Seoul government's precautionary measures against possible terrorist attacks targeting South Koreans during the Athens Olympics. The announcement comes ahead of Seoul's deployment next month of its Zaitun military unit to the troubled Gulf nation of Iraq.

The embassy plans to distribute a special registration form to travel agencies and airports so that travelers to Greece can register relevant information with the Foreign Ministry or the embassy in Athens prior to their departure for the Mediterranean country.
