The top military officers of South Korea and Canada held phone conversations on Thursday to discuss ways to enhance bilateral security cooperation.

According to the Joint Chiefs of Staff(JCS), JCS Chairman Kim Myung-soo and his Canadian counterpart Jennie Carignan assessed the security situation on the Korean Peninsula and in the Indo-Pacific region, and discussed ways to expand bilateral military cooperation.

The JCS said that the two sides agreed on the need to expand bilateral cooperation in various areas for peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.

Kim reportedly said that Canada's implementation of sanctions against North Korea is contributing greatly to efforts to bring peace and stability in the region, asking for Ottawa's continue support for Seoul's security policies.
