President Yoon Suk Yeol hosted a dinner for former President Lee Myung-bak and his wife, Kim Yoon-ok, at the presidential office on Monday.

The first official dinner between Yoon and Lee since Yoon took office was also attended by first lady Kim Keon-hee and Yoon’s chief of staff, Chung Jin-suk, who had served as a senior secretary to Lee for political affairs.

The meeting came about a year after Yoon and Lee briefly met at the funeral of Yoon's father in August 2023.

In December 2022, Yoon granted a special pardon to Lee, who had been serving a 17-year prison term for bribery and embezzlement.

The two sides reportedly exchanged opinions on various issues. According to ruling party officials, Yoon and Lee are thought to have discussed a South Korean company’s winning bid to build nuclear power plants in the Czech Republic.
