Torrential rains that soaked the northern and central regions of the nation on Saturday has left eight people dead, one missing and some 200 people homeless.

The Central Disaster Prevention and Countermeasure Headquarters said Sunday that the heavy rain, which began early Friday, also inundated 4,500 hectares of farmland and shut down railway services from Seoul to northeastern regions for several hours on Friday and Saturday due to rocks and mudslides.

Earlier on Saturday afternoon, the Korea Meteorological Administration lifted heavy rain warning and alerts in the country
