The Board of Audit and Inspection has reached a tentative conclusion on its investigations over the government's alleged mishandling of South Korean hostage Kim Sun-il's abduction and murder in Iraq. The state auditors said Monday they were not able to find any particular faults with the government's foreign affairs and security systems, which had come under fire after Kim was murdered by his Muslim captors last month. A key official of the audit agency said investigations did not reveal any evidence that the National Intelligence Service and the Ministry of Defense had overlooked reports by the South Korean embassy in Baghdad. The official said contrary to public accusations, the agency finds no fault in the existing foreign affairs and security systems. However, the official expressed regret over the way the Foreign Ministry handled the Kim Sun-il case, saying the ministry's shortcomings are not necessarily linked to the government's management of foreign affairs and security.
