Police authorities said Monday they would launch a reinvestigation into a number of missing persons cases following the recent capture of a leading suspect in a serial murder case. The police have decided to re-open investigations into missing persons cases that may have involved the suspected serial killer, known by the surname Yoo. The police also said that missing cases concerning women in the sex trade would be henceforth investigated as major crimes. According to the police, 50 million won in rewards will be paid to informants whose help leads to successful prosecution of major crimes such as murder. The police arrested on Sunday a suspect in a rash of recent killings who is believed to have killed 20 women and elderly people in less than a year.
