Unification and Foreign Ministers Deny Rumors of Inter-Korean Summit

Written: 2004-07-20 00:00:00Updated: 0000-00-00 00:00:00

The ministers of Unification and Foreign Affairs say rumors that a prospective inter-Korean summit may materialize by the year's end are 'groundless'. Unification Minister Chung Dong-young said on Tuesday there is no process underway at the moment that would lead up to an inter-Korean summit, expressing consternation over why some dailies are continuing to write related stories. Foreign Minister Ban Ki-moon also remarked that he had no knowledge on the matter. President Roh himself has recently said he is not in a hurry to hold a summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-il, noting that a resolution to the nuclear issue should precede an inter-Korean summit.
