A parliamentary inspection team will return home on Thursday from Iraq after concluding a weeklong investigation on suspicious circumstances surrounding the killing of South Korean hostage Kim Sun-il.
Led by ruling Uri Party legislator Kim Sung-kon, the seven-member investigation team is scheduled to hold a news conference shortly after their arrival in Seoul and announce the findings from their on-site inspection.
During their six-day stay in the Middle East, the legislators visited Baghdad and Iraq's neighboring countries to question related officials on the abduction and subsequent killing of Kim, a 33-year old employee of Gana General Trading Company.
On Sunday, the team visited Baghdad and questioned officials from the South Korean Embassy in Iraq and Gana employees on the exact timeframe of Kim's abduction.
Before heading home, the legislators met local officials of the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency as well as embassy staff in Iraq's neighboring countries and reviewed the safety measures in place for South Koreans living in the Middle East.
