A leading Japanese daily says North Korea's deputy chief delegate to the six-nation nuclear talks will visit the United States next month to attend an international conference.

Japan's Asahi Shimbun newspaper said Thursday that Ri Gun, deputy director-general of the American Affairs Bureau of the North's Foreign Ministry, will be in New York for several days from August 9th.

The paper said Ri may meet with the American special envoy to Pyongyang, Joseph DeTrani, who is also expected to take part in the international conference in New York.
