The U.S. Democratic Party say it may seek to hold one-on-one talks with North Korea if its candidate wins the presidential election in November.
The talks, the party said, would aim to resolve a dispute over Pyongyang's nuclear weapons program together with ongoing multilaterial efforts within the six-party framework.
The party said on its Internet homepage the Bush admistrations failed to prevent Iran and North Korea from developing nuclear weapons, and that it was time for a change of course.
The party, however, cautioned against having what they called "fantasies" about North Korean leader Kim Jong-il, saying that any agreement would have to entail strict verifiability and that the North's nuclear programs should be dismantled completely and irreversibly.
