North Korea claimed Sunday that U.S. spy planes conducted around 1,200 surveillance flights over the nation this year.
The country's central braodcaster reported that "US imperialists" spied on its strategic objects, flying over the demilitarized zone, the buffer area dividing the two Koreas.
North Korea has been at loggerheads with the US over its nuclear ambitions, which first abrupted in late 2003. In seeking a peaceful resolution, three rounds of multilateral talks have been held with no significant progress. The next round of nuclear talks is slated for September in Beijing.
