The main opposition Grand National Party says it welcomes the arrival of North Korean defectors in Seoul Tuesday, and has urged the government to seek measures to help them settle into their new life in South Korea. GNP Secretary-General Kim Hyung-oh said in a meeting among key party members Tuesday that the government's approach to the protection of North Korean defectors in the South must be specifically oriented to prevent the violation of their human rights. Kim also called on the government to exert its greatest efforts into establishing facilities as well as social security networks for the defectors.
