The U.S. State Department has approved the possible sale to South Korea of airborne early warning and control aircraft, along with related support, for an estimated four-point-92 billion U.S. dollars.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency, under the U.S. Department of Defense, announced the decision Monday.

The agency said South Korea had requested four E-7 airborne early warning and control aircraft, ten jet engines, and related elements of logistics and program support.

It added that it notified the U.S. Congress of the possible sale on Monday.

The agency said the proposed sale will improve South Korea’s ability to meet current and future threats by providing increased intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, as well as airborne early warning and control.
