Ruling People Power Party floor leader Choo Kyung-ho said the upcoming trial proceedings for main opposition Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung should be broadcast live.
At a party meeting Tuesday, Choo said the public has a right to watch the court rule on November 15 and again November 25, when two of Lee’s criminal cases are set to conclude.
Lee is accused of election law violations and subornation of perjury, and if found guilty he will face sentencing on those dates.
Choo urged the opposition leader to ask the court to permit the rulings to be broadcast live.
Earlier, the ruling party had submitted a petition to the court with the same request.
Choo has asked the court to permit live coverage even if Lee refuses consent, in accordance with a recent change to the law giving the court the authority to do so when a trial concerns the public interest.
