Report: President Yoon Suk Yeol is set to brief the public on the administration’s achievements and outline its future policy direction on Thursday. This coming Sunday is the halfway mark in his five-year term.

Yoon is also expected to answer questions about a wide range of issues, including his past interactions with self-proclaimed political consultant Myung Tae-kyun and various allegations against first lady Kim Keon-hee.

The press conference is expected to have no limits on time or content and reportedly will be more flexible in format than previous ones.

Initially, the president was expected to hold the press event at the end of this month following the U.S. presidential election and a planned overseas trip.

However, Yoon moved up the event after close aides advised that it would be preferable to seize the moment and speak to the people.

On Monday, ruling People Power Party floor leader Choo Kyung-ho met with Yoon and told the president the party hoped he would take time to communicate with the public at the earliest possible opportunity.

Yoon reportedly accepted his recommendation.

With the press conference, the top office is apparently aiming to address various political controversies and suspicions while seeking a rebound in the president’s approval rating.

The office is also said to be considering additional opportunities for the president to communicate with the people.
