The main opposition Democratic Party has put forth three demands a day ahead of President Yoon Suk Yeol’s press conference and his address to the nation.
Party spokesperson Hwang Jung-a told reporters on Wednesday that the party wants Yoon to issue a public apology, accept a special counsel investigation to examine allegations surrounding first lady Kim Keon-hee, and stop inciting war.
The third demand concerns the government’s response to the recent deployment of North Korean troops to Russia.
Hwang urged Yoon to explain the circumstances that created the appearance of election meddling on the part of the president and the first lady in 2022.
She said the main opposition intends to stage a rally for the second consecutive weekend this coming Saturday, this time near Seoul’s Sungnyemun, to call for the special counsel probe and protest the alleged influence peddling.
The opposition party also plans to collect signatures from the public to denounce the alleged influence peddling.
