The government has unveiled plans to assist victims of deepfake sex crimes, including strengthening the role of the Advocacy Center for Online Sexual Abuse Victims.
The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family announced on Wednesday that it has decided to expand the scope of the women’s emergency hotline, 1366, to include assistance for victims of deepfake sex crimes.
The ministry also decided to create a dedicated website to handle deepfake sex crime reports, in hopes of speeding up the process when illegal materials like video footage are found.
The government will also address the issue of staff and budget shortages at the Advocacy Center for Online Sexual Abuse Victims, which is run by the gender equality ministry-affiliated Women’s Human Rights Institute of Korea.
In doing so, the ministry aims to increase counseling service hours from the current eight hours a day to 24 hours.
