Donald Trump has been elected the 47th president of the United States.

Winning the state of Wisconsin in the early hours of Wednesday, the Republican former president secured a total of 276 electoral votes, according to CNN. 

It takes at least 270 electoral votes to win the presidential election in the U.S. 

Trump also won the key swing states of Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Georgia.
