S. Korea Posts Current Account Surplus in September for Fifth Straight Month

The nation posted a current account surplus for the fifth consecutive month in September, on the back of robust exports of semiconductors and other IT products. 

According to tentative data from the Bank of Korea on Thursday, the current account surplus came to eleven-point-12 billion dollars in September. 

The current account posted a surplus for the fifth straight month, starting in May, and the surplus increased to its largest point since June. 

The goods account posted a surplus of ten-point-67 billion dollars in September, following a six-point-52 billion dollar surplus the previous month.

Exports increased nine-point-nine percent on-year to 61-point-67 billion dollars in September on the back of active shipments of semiconductors and telecommunications equipment. 

Imports rose four-point-nine percent year-on-year to 51 billion dollars.
