Former President Donald Trump has won a string of swing states and defeated Vice President Kamala Harris to become the 47th president of the United States.

Trump swept the so-called “blue wall” states of Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, all of which Democrats held consistently from 1992 to 2012.

After Trump emerged victorious in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin on Wednesday, the race was called with 276 electoral votes for Trump.

U.S. presidents are elected by the Electoral College, and a candidate needs at least 270 Electoral College votes to win.

He soon gave his victory speech at his campaign headquarters in West Palm Beach, Florida. Kamala Harris delivered a concession speech on the campus of Howard University in Washington, DC shortly after.

As of Thursday evening Korea Standard Time, Trump had 295 electoral votes and 50-point-eight percent of the popular vote, while Harris had 226 electoral votes and 47-point-five percent of the popular vote, according to CNN.

Trump will be the second president in the country’s history to serve two nonconsecutive terms, the first being Grover Cleveland in 1885-1889 and 1893-1897.

Trump was first elected president in 2016, defeating former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

He lost reelection to President Joe Biden in 2020.

Meanwhile, Republicans won the U.S. Senate but the control of the House is still unclear.
