US Congresswoman of Korean Descent Wins Third Term in Washington’s 10th District

Marilyn Strickland, a U.S. congresswoman of Korean descent, has won a third term as the representative of Washington State’s Tenth District.

According to the Associated Press, the Democratic congresswoman defeated her Republican rival, Don Hewitt, in Tuesday’s general elections, securing 58-point-three percent of all votes against Hewitt’s 41-point-seven percent.

Strickland, whose Korean name is Sun-ja, was born in Seoul in 1962 to a South Korean mother and a U.S. serviceman father.

Having served as the mayor of Tacoma, Washington, between 2010 and 2018, Strickland was elected to the House of Representatives in 2020.
