Main opposition Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung has urged President Yoon Suk Yeol to reflect honestly on his failures, issue a sincere apology to the public, and completely change the direction of his policies.
At a party Supreme Council meeting Friday, Lee responded to Yoon’s press conference the previous day, which took place as the president and the first lady faced influence-peddling allegations.
The opposition chief said Yoon neither expressed regret nor spoke truthfully at the event, adding that some people were confused as to what the president was apologizing for.
Democratic Party floor leader Park Chan-dae said the event made it clear that Yoon is not qualified to be president and a special prosecutor must be appointed to look into allegations against the first lady.
Meanwhile, Supreme Council members Han Jun-ho and Song Soon-ho called on the president to voluntarily step down for the sake of the nation’s future and the public’s well-being.
