The South Korean military conducted a live-fire exercise involving the launch of a Hyunmoo-2 surface-to-surface ballistic missile into the Yellow Sea.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff(JCS) said Friday that the exercise took place the previous day, in response to North Korea’s short-range ballistic missile launch on Tuesday and its intercontinental ballistic missile test last week.
The South Korean missile unit fired the Hyunmoo-2 as part of a training scenario simulating a precision strike against the source of a North Korean ballistic missile.
The missile was fired from Anheung Port in Taean County, South Chungcheong Province, and traveled some 200 kilometers south before hitting its target.
The JCS said it will continue to closely monitor the North’s military activities under a combined defense posture with the U.S., adding that it is ready to respond to any North Korean provocations.
