Massive rallies by labor and civic groups are set to take place in Seoul on Saturday afternoon.

The Federation of Korean Trade Unions(FKTU), one of the nation's two umbrella groups, staged a rally in Yeouido at 2 p.m., denouncing what it calls the government's "anti-labor policies."

The other umbrella group, the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions(KCTU), along with civic groups, will hold a rally near Gwanghwamun from 4 p.m., calling for President Yoon Suk Yeol to resign amid allegations of influence-peddling.

The rally will be followed by a candlelight march between City Hall and Gwanghwamun from 5:30 p.m.

Conservative groups, including the Movement Headquarters for Correct Establishment of Korea, announced plans to stage a rally of their own near City Hall from 1 p.m., in a bid to counter the opposition bloc's attempts to oust the president.

The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency plans to dispatch some 220 officers to rally sites to control traffic.
