Myung Tae-kyun, a self-proclaimed political consultant and a key figure in a high-profile scandal involving the president and first lady, was questioned by the prosecution for the second consecutive day on Saturday.
The Changwon District Prosecutors' Office grilled Myung for over 12 hours on Saturday as a suspect in a political funding case after questioning him for eight hours the previous day.
Appearing from the questioning at 10:25 p.m. Saturday, Myung told reporters that he truthfully testified to the prosecution regarding the alleged violation of the Political Funds Act.
Myung, however, denied allegations that he used his personal connections with President Yoon Suk Yeol and first lady Kim Keon-hee to influence the ruling People Power Party's (PPP) nomination process for a by-election in June 2022.
Regarding his phone call with Yoon on the nomination of former PPP lawmaker Kim Young-sun, Myung claimed that he was not in the position to meddle in the nomination process, stressing that Yoon and he had a private conversation.
Myung also denied that he accepted multiple payments totaling approximately 90 million won, or about 65-thousand U.S. dollars, from Kim, saying that Kim repaid the money she borrowed from him.
