The government is set to officially announce the site for the new administrative capital around the middle of next month.

The presidential committee in charge of the capital relocation said Thursday that it will hold a meeting at the government complex in Seoul on August 11th and officially designate the Yeonki-Gongju region in South Chungchong Province as the site for the new administrative capital.

The region was tentatively chosen last month as the site for the relocated capital after it received the highest score in a screening process, beating out three other candidate sites.

Once the site is finalized, the government plans to draw up a blueprint for the construction of state offices and facilities in the area around June 2006 and begin construction around July 2007.

The relocation was a campaign pledge of President Roh Moo-hyun aimed at alleviating population density problems in Seoul and seeking balanced national development.
